You Don’t Mess With the Zohan (Unrated + BD Live) [Blu-ray] Reviews By Customers
I can’t believe how much I enjoyed You Don’t Mess With the Zohan.
I went in fully expecting a typical Adam Sandler movie (you know, the kind where he just plays a stupid main character who’s too goofy for his own good, which results in hit or miss comedy material).
Instead, this is quite possibly one of the best movies he ever made. I’m seriously shocked right now.
Furthermore, this movie almost has an epic feel to it. The movie is bigger, more “complex” (by comedy standards) and funnier than I EVER would’ve imagined.
I won’t lie to you though- it might take a few minutes to warm up to Adam Sandler’s character. Sometimes his accent isn’t always clear, and other times it’s just downright sloppy and unbelievable. Still, give the story time to develop, and you should be in for a really good time.
Probably not as good as the Waterboy though, but this movie comes OH so close to matching the greatness of that one.
Some of the scenes that brought a smile to my face, or downright made me laugh like a school girl-
- the scene where Adam’s character was “feeling up” his customers at the hair salon and treating the older ladies like they were young and extremely attractive. He would constantly hit on the ladies with his inappropriate words. After that, Adam’s character would take them to the back room of the salon and… you know!
- he was playing a game where he was bouncing a cat with the top of his feet, similar to things ball players tend to do while warming up, haha.
- the part where he was peeing in the litter box was golden!
- making a little child cry when he said that the boys veins would probably be accidentally cut if the boy didn’t sit still for a haircut, lol
- swimming like a professional while chasing a guy on a jet ski
- playing pinball with a grenade
- constantly saying inappropriate things to Americans, and the people sort of forgiving him because of his accent and where he’s from
- tying people into knots by folding their arms and legs, haha
- fighting a group of bad guys in super speed fast motion. similar to this scene would be the one where he drank a bottle of yellow liquid in a matter of two seconds after being hesitant if he should drink it or not
This was just a really funny movie. I can’t believe I don’t remember any advertisements running for it on television.
perhaps my favorite movie ever – EclecticReader – Silicon Valley, CA
This hilarious film is perhaps my favorite movie ever. I enjoyed watching the extras on the blueray version. A lot really went into making this film behind the scenes (many stunt doubles, for example). I liked the music too, and since no soundtrack was available had to download many of the tracks separately from Amazon’s MP3 store.
Now you may be asking yourself, is she reviewing the right film?
Yes I am. It is hard to believe they even made this film. If you let yourself laugh, it’s one of the funniest films ever, and displays a side of Israeli culture rarely seen in other films that take themselves too seriously.
Interestingly funny! – The – CA, USA
This movie was interestingly funny, meaning it was a bit weird but i liked and i understand adam sandler’s humor which is why I thought this movie was hilarious. Plus the palastinian girl in this movie is very sexy. Shes beautiful.
Don’t Just Don’t – Jason C. Long – Canton OH
There is a lot of funny gags in the movie the best one (yes it was worth the I spent for the flick) is Tutoro’s training sequence first he climbs out of a bed of women, then cracks 2 eggs & 2 baby chicks are the glass, downs them, then he punches a variety of punching bags including a cow hung upside down he cowers behind his trainer as soon as the cow moos fun stuff. Not Sandler’s worse not his best it just works.

Academy Award® winners Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs) and Benicio Del Toro (Traffic) tear up the screen in this action-packed thriller. Lawrence Talbot (Del Toro) is lured back to his family estate to investigate the savage murder of his brother by a bloodthirsty beast. There, Talbot must confront his childhood demons, his estranged father (Hopkins), his brother’s grieving fiancée (Emily Blunt, The Devil Wears Prada) and a suspicious Scotland Yard Inspector (Hugo Weaving, The Matrix Trilogy). When Talbot is bitten by the creature, he becomes eternally cursed and soon discovers a fate far worse than death. Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins.
The Wolfman (2-Disc Unrated Director’s Cut + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] Reviews By Customers
The Wolfman is a remake that takes no prisoners, and boy, you can’t help but love it.
Remakes aren’t a new thing, they’ve happened for quite a while now. But I wouldn’t necessarily call this movie a remake, more of an alternate telling of the classic tale that we all know as The Wolfman.
The movie begins as any movie called “The Wolfman” would- guy is making sure nothing oogie happens in the woods at night, he hears a sound, searches for where he heard it, then BAM- he turns around and is scratched by the wolf. So he runs and runs, and before ya know it, he’s doomed!
Anyways I wouldn’t need to recycle the plot for anyone who knows the plot- Lawrence Talbot returns to his home in England after Tragedy strikes with the gory death of his brother. He is reunited with his dad and one night gets scratched by a werewolf. This leaves him with one thing he cannot control: at the full moon at night, he becomes a wolf.
This movie is stupid? Yes. It’s pointlessly gory? Yes. It hardly has a plot and is just two hours of Benicio Del Toro going around ripping people to shreds? Yes. But THAT’S why the movie is so good! There’s nothing that needs to be taken seriously. It’s just two hours of werewolf mayhem.
The acting is excellent- everyone shines in the roles and it comes off as very stage-like. The special effects are great as always- and in total, the movie is just FUN. It’s very fast paced, it thrills you for its duration. There’s tonnes of gore too, which adds to the cheesy feel.
In total, this movie is cheesy, exaggerated, overblown trash, and yet I loved every single second. The whole movie was thrilling and fun, and in short, if you can turn your brain off for 2 hours, you’ll enjoy the pure adrenaline rush that is “The Wolfman”. Hell, I own it on Blu-ray- it’s a great movie!
Good movie – Ashley Trujillo –
While the movie didn’t necessarily have a happy ending the graphics were cool and very rarely do movies get it right with the transformations of characters to wolves and I think this movie did well with that aspect. The characters were likable and the scene and plot were all good. Some unanswered questions but definitely a movie I would watch again…maybe I missed something the firs time around.
Inferior To the Original – Thomas Santomartino – Newark, DE USA
It is hard to be sympathy for Larry Talbot as he slashes and rends his way through this over-wrought remake because of the high body count and excessive gore. Although the movie does manage to create a creepy atmosphere, it wasn’t enough to save it. I think if they had followed the original movies script and just brought it up to date a bit, horrified more with suggestiveness, and shown Larry more sensitive side I would have liked it better. I got tired of all the main characters whispering throughout the movie like they were in a library or something. The scene (warning spoiler) at the end of the film with the fighting werewolves was taken from The Wolfman’s Predecessor, the Werewolf of London, rather than adapting things from the original film. It was really a mix of both movies, faithful to neither.
The bottom line, if you are a fan of the original film skip this remake. If you like blood and gore than it’s you’re lucky day, because you are sure to like this film–it will really sink it’s teeth into you.

How on earth they got Jessica Alba in this thing is beyond me. I am a guy and enjoyed the skin but feel Alba was the only thing that let this thing float just above the trash…barely.
good luck chuck – Larry Suttles –
this is a good movie but the dvd that i ordered is has a deep scratch in it and stops a few minutes into the movie you have to forward to the next scene to get the movie going again so you miss some of the movie.
one of the worst movies i’ve ever seen – KAM – Concord, New Hampshire
first off, i don’t understand why or how dane cook became so successful. there is nothing funny about him. he doesn’t tell jokes – he relates “stories” with very animated facial and physical gestures. and, often, looks like a monkey. dan fogler, too, is quite possibly the most annoying human being on the planet… especially his character in this movie. he is a disgusting, misogynistic pig. i would love for lionsgate to make “hostel III” starring dane cook and dan fogler – that would be a movie i would pay to see twice. now, on to the movie itself: the concept is ludicrous and makes absolutely no sense. seriously, this film must have been written by and made for people with nonexistent IQ’s… because anybody that can tie their own shoes would realize how absurd this movie is and would never plunk down for this piece of cinematic tripe. to even suggest that hundreds of beautiful women could never find a decent man on their own, and would have to resort to sleeping with a d-bag like dane cook to find a husband, is an offense to women everywhere. this movie is so incredibly misogynistic… where women are depicted as clueless, desperate pieces of “t+a”… that even i, a man and non-feminist, was offended by it. and we’re supposed to like this schmuck because he agrees to sleep with his overweight secretary out of the goodness of his heart and says, “i’ll only think of you (when we have sex).” please. please, please, please, if there is any justice in the world this movie will make at the box office and garbage like this will STOP BEING MADE! this movie is not funny – it is an insult to anyone with a brain or a heart. just see “knocked up” or “superbad” instead, to see how to actually make a comedy that is both hilarious and heartfelt.

Miami Vice (Unrated Director’s Edition) [Blu-ray] Reviews By Customers
Turning a classic tv show into a movie yields both pros and cons. While there is already an established audience that will follow the movie from the show, the inevitable comparison’s between the two will cause a lot of criticism, and may yield and unhappy critical and box office return. Such is the case with Miami Vice. Here, Michael Mann, who had a hand in the great original show, decided to create a very dark and realistic modern take on the beloved characters, which resulted in a split amongst fans. I wonder how the reaction would be for Miami Vice, had Michael Mann instead did what he did with Heat, which is itself a remake of his show Crime Story but turned into a more modern and dark movie, but without the stigma of comparison. Similarly, I wonder what would have happened if there wasn’t so much behind the scene drama of the actors involved.
The trouble is we’ll never know. Which is a shame, as Miami Vice is a dark and gritty cop drama, involving dark themes and moral ambiguity that is seen in more dark films, but is usually not something fans expect from something titled Miami Vice. The movie is not without flaws, I never bought the romance between Farrell and Gong Li, but much like the bleak world that exists in the drug trade, this movie is not meant to show heart. Rather, its meant to show the real world. If you’re looking for a gritty crime thriller, akin to Heat or Collateral, then you’ll find much to like with Miami Vice. If you’re hoping to wax nostalgia of the days of pastel and 80s soundtracks, you should get the original show on dvd.
Miami Vice – Cedar –
Miami Vice was one of my favorite tv shows growing up. I remember watching my first episode of the show while on a family vacation in Florida–past midnight, everyone else asleep, room lit only by the tv set. The show was extremely dramatic and the scenery so amazing. And being in Florida myself for the first time made the show resonate that much more. Well last night I finally watched Miami Vice the movie. I was surprised to feel the same emotions that accompanied my first glimpse of the tv show more than 25 years ago. Everything about this movie is pitch perfect to me–the casting, the locations, the story, the camera’s movements, the music, the cars, the boats, the planes, the guns, the clothes, everything. In fact, I keep replaying the final standoff with Yero. I love it when Tubbs starts that 645i and the engine rumble comes through my subwoofer accompanied by Nonpoint’s remake of In the Air Tonight.
Fantastic, gritty update – mfx3 – Virginia
I grew up on the show. This movie is not the show. It doesn’t try to be the show, doesn’t throw around a bunch limp, mindless inside-joke homages to the show, and sure as hell never apologizes for the fact that it is not, in fact, the original TV show. In fact, I don’t recall a single joke or moment of comic relief. And that, my friend, is a relief. This is a different beast entirely, and God I love it. Fantastic film if you’re willing to overlook the fact that it’s not a failed attempt to reattain former glory of a campy (although great) 80′s television program.
Miami Vice rocks – Thomas J. Easter – Washington, DC USA
Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are the best actors out there but I think they did a respectable job of catching the essence. Colin’s changing accent was a bit of a nuisance. Michael Mann’s directing ability, vision and eye for detail though are bar not. The level of realism is amazing.

Milla Jovovich, Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez star in this gripping suspense-thriller about an island vacation that turns deadly. Honeymooners Cliff (Zahn) and Cydney (Jovovich) are hiking a jungle trail to a remote Hawaiian beach when they hear that police have uncovered a grisly murder scene and the suspected killers are somewhere nearby. Unsure whether to stay or flee, the pair joins two other couples and things start to go horribly wrong. Far from civilization, a brutal battle for survival begins where danger lurks along every twist of the path and no one is who they seem. From director David Twohy comes the suspenseful film critics call, “a clever, heart-pounding thriller” (Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle).
A Perfect Getaway (Unrated Director’s Cut) [Blu-ray] Reviews By Customers
A PERFECT GETAWAY
STARRING: Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich, Timothy Olyphant, Kiele Sanchez, Marley Shelton and Chris Hemsworth
WRITTEN BY: David Twohy
DIRECTED BY: David Twohy
Rated: R
Genre: Thriller
Release Date: 07 August 2009
Steve Zahn has done it again. The guy is brilliant. Few actors can laugh your socks off, make you cry, and freak you out; Zahn is one of the best at all three and he’s only getting better.
He stars in A Perfect Getaway as Cliff, a Hollywood screenwriter on his honeymoon with Cydney (Milla Jovovich). The two lovebirds have decided to `get away’ for their honeymoon, to Hawaii. Things look promising that they’ll have a good time; save for the fact that another couple on their honeymoon was murdered very recently, on a nearby Island. Surely they have nothing to worry about though, because what are the odds the killer would come to their island? To them – not likely; for us as audience members watching a thriller – it’s as good as inevitable.
So we know the killer will show up at some point, but what we have to do now is figure out who it will be. We are introduced very early on, to a couple of hitchhikers, and when things don’t go over so well between the two couples; we have our first suspects. Surely they will pop again sooner or later.
Crossing a dangerously slippery waterfall, we meet a guy who could easily be Rambo’s long lost brother. The sensational Timothy Olyphant plays Nick, an ex military stud who is, and I’m quoting him and his girlfriend here, “Really hard to kill.” Nick and his girl Gina have us suspicious but could they really be the killers?
Cliff and Cydney aren’t exactly sure about them, but they seem to know their way around the island pretty well; and when the hitchhikers show up again, anyone would make better company. So they tag along with Nick and Gina and things get very interesting.
There is really no way to describe much more, without ruining the film. It’s a fast paced, in your face thriller. It’s edgy and full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. The characters are all beautifully designed and well-acted. Everyone was believable and kept your head spinning in regards to who was really who. The film had a Hitchcock feel to it, but it also had the hype and current look that a film like Scream would bring you.
The film is written and directed by David Twohy. Between both trades, he’s given us a ton of great films to include Pitch Black and its sequels, Waterworld, The Fugitive, The Arrival and G.I. Jane, to name only a few. His latest film, A Perfect Getaway is exactly that, for any fan of film with 97 minutes to invest. It’s the kind of movie you see twice.
Guys… that was a perfectly good story. – Julian Kennedy – St Pete Florida
A Perfect Getaway: 7 out of 10: For a slow moving thriller that cheats… a little, A Perfect Getaway isn’t that bad. It has gorgeous cinematography and while it moves slowly, it successfully builds up tension with character development rather than relying on black cats jumping out of closets or severed body parts every ten minutes.
The tale is about three couples in Hawaii and one couple could be a pair of murders from the big island.
Our protagonist couple (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) is a bit nerdy and a bit goofy. Jovovich in particular gives a wonderfully awkward performance in body language and facial expressions.
Trying to get into the Hawaii spirit our protagonist honeymooners attempt to do a favor for a second couple hitchhiking (Marley Shelton and Chris Hemsworth), but Hemsworth gives off such a bad vibe that the Zahn and Jovoich are naturally concerned about running into him on the trail again.
They take refuge with the “cool” couple (Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez). Olyphant in particular simply cascades charisma onto the screen even when attempting to convince others he has a plate in his head from his Special Forces days. But even the cool couple could just as easily be the killers (after all Olyphant seems to like fondling his special forces knife a bit two much and this is a movie.)
All this interaction is among well placed news reports that a non-nondescript couple is wanted for questioning for a murder and are suspected in being on the same trail as our plucky honeymooners.
Director Twohy isn’t back in Pitch Black form but he shows a surer directing hand than he did in Chronicles of Riddick and he gets better performances out of his actors than he did in Below. In fact for a movie with basically six people and very little action the film rests almost exclusively on the actor’s shoulders. The actors certainly hold up their end of the bargain across the board.
The movie does cheat a bit as I stated before but this is a thriller rather than a mystery (after all there are only three couples in the whole film) and the journey is more fun than the reveal. In fact the movie has such a relaxed pace and vibe you can easily forget it is a thriller at all. That’s when it gets you.
No suspense for the experienced, retread “thrills”, disappointing cinematography – Douglas B. Moran – Palo Alto, CA USA
I am someone who has seen enough movies and pays attention to what is going on that I immediately pick up on the shot that doesn’t quite belong, the cut-away at an unnatural point, odd phrasings, … If you are this sort of person, there is no suspense in this movie: Almost from the very beginning, I suspected what the twist was, by about 10 minutes in I was reasonably certain, and at 17:35 it was effectively confirmed (Director’s Cut times). Until the “twist” was explicitly revealed, there was such a continuing barrage of these hints that people like me have problems understanding how others could have missed all of them. My objection is _not_ that the movie gives you hints of the twist–I would be upset if it gave none (cheating)–but rather that there should have been only enough to create the ambiguity that creates suspense.
When the “twist” is explicitly revealed, there is a _long_ “intermission” (in B/W) that may end the movie for you (I did email waiting for the story to resume). This slow-paced interruption enumerates details no longer important or of interest (relative to the movie experience) plus a tedious tangent.
Even if you aren’t one who spotted the twist, you may well find the attempt to build suspense to be so ham-handed that it has no emotional impact. All the characters in the three couples are “off” enough, often in unbelievable ways, that not only did I not have any empathy for any of them–necessary for suspense–but I disliked them enough that I found myself half-hoping that they would be killed early on. However, because of my age (50s) and nature, I am a harder “sell” than most for establishing empathy.
Good suspense movies work despite their logical holes because the pacing keeps your from noticing them or keeps you so emotionally involved that you willingly accept them. Here, the pacing is labored and so erratic/uneven that it never approaches the necessary momentum.
If you have seen more than a few thriller movies in your life, you will see nothing new here, and those retread “thrills” are prosaic, predictable and telegraphed well in advance. Some of the attempts to build tension were so badly executed that they do the opposite. Mistakes and misinterpretations are expected, stretching out “too stupid to live” is bad scripting. At the end, I was rooting for the police to shoot the couple being stalked, which would have had the added benefit of being an interesting minor twist of letting the serial killers escape detection (as the lesser evil/idiots).
This movie inconceivably fails to capture even a small fraction of the beauty of its location (based on std DVD). Even an amateur has difficulty not taking breath-taking pictures (personal experience). Good cinematography could have offset a legion of failings.
For Milla Jovovich fans, be aware that a substantial portion of her close-ups are in the B/W segment, something that should get the director a lifetime ban. And there is only a fleeting bit with her as action star.
Aside: Indicative of how little attention was paid to the script, the “hard to kill” character claims he survived the Sioux Falls DC-10 crash (UA 232) because of “situational awareness”. That crash is ancient history (1989) for both the character and the audience, and it was luck–where you were seated–that determined who survived. It would have taken the writers only a brief visit to Wikipedia to find a suitable update to maintain the ambiguity about the character’s claims and whether the others should believe them.
And what confirmed the “twist” to me was a reference to a 1994 event, although being so dated was part of what made it more than just a hint.
Unexpected thrill ride! – F.Faulkner – Hartford, CT USA
We watched the director’s cut so I can’t speak to the theatrical version or whether it was different. But on the directors cut we say Yay! We enjoyed this movie far more than expected by the ho-hum “honeymooners” trailer. Timothy Olyphant was excellent and we were cheering for him and his girlfriend by the end. This movie had subtlety and action and you really will enjoy the second half more than the first. The first half of the film was a lot of storyline building and character development and some things just don’t make sense in hindsight, but it was a really good weekend flick!
